Karen Ikegami (she/her/hers)

Principal

Karen believes that learning is most meaningful when it is embedded in a meaningful context. She has spent the past 11 years ensuring that students have access to great teachers and curriculum and plans to do no different at RiseUp, where she is excited to be a part of the innovative team. She grew up in the Northwest and attended the University of Oregon, then earned her masters at Seattle University. She moved to Colorado in 2008 and worked at Eagle Rock School and Professional Development Center as the Math Instructional Specialist. Aside from her work in schools, Karen spends her free time rock climbing, playing tennis, gardening, and floating rivers.

What is Your Why?

I know that every kid can achieve great things when they’re seen. Growing up, I was a good and quiet student, but because of that, I was often overlooked. It took me all the way into adulthood when I finally found a community, where I flourished. Because of this, I make sure that I give time each day to get to know our students and families to ensure they are supported by RiseUp to reach their goals.
