Jalonia Walker (she/her/hers)

Professional School Counselor

Hi RiseUp Community! My name is Jalonia Walker. I am the new Post-Secondary Readiness Counselor at RiseUp. This is my 18th year in education and I am super excited to spend time with YOU. I am passionate about education and working with students, parents, staff and the community at large. My heart is to build meaningful relationships with all people.

I am a Colorado native and a proud graduate of William Smith High School “Class of 1991”.  I attended Regis University where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Interpersonal Communication and a Master of Science in School Counseling. This is my fifteenth year with Denver Public Schools and my first year with RiseUp Community where I am a proud staff member.

What is Your Why?

Being a School Counselor inspires my “WHY” because so many students have similar paths as myself, like being a teen mother or getting kicked out of a traditional high school. Students need educators who look like them, who can relate to them, and who can build positive & meaningful relationships with them. As a School Counselor, my heart’s desire is to help all students reach their goal to graduate with a high school diploma or a GED and establish a successful plan for life after high school.
