Nikki graduated from Northern Michigan University with her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and English in 2004. Her first teaching job was as a 10th grade English instructor at Tohatchi High School on the Navajo Nation in New Mexico. Three years later, Nikki left the beautiful mesas of New Mexico for the peaks of Colorado. For the last seven years, she has overseen the YouthBuild academic program at Mile High Youth Corps, including developing curricula and teaching classes to prepare students to earn their GEDs or high school diplomas. In 2012, while serving as the Senior Educator at the Corps, Nikki was selected as one of seventeen YouthBuild educators nationally to participate in the 2012-13 YouthBuild USA Teacher Fellows. As part of her work, Nikki facilitated conference sessions at the YouthBuild Instructional Leadership Institute in 2013 and collaborated with other Fellows to develop a concept paper on teacher support, which she and her peers presented to program directors in Washington, D.C. in 2014.
Now, Nikki is excited to be on the first-year staff of RiseUp Community School as a professionally-licensed Humanities Teacher.
