Margarita Colindres

Margarita was born in Guatemala City C.A. Her career as a bilingual educator started when she first arrived in the United States of America over 21 years ago. While living in Chicago, Illinois she had the opportunity to take on many different roles in the field of education. During the years in the Chicago Public Schools district, she gained extensive experience as an assistant teacher, a Spanish teacher, an art teacher, Student Activities Assistant Coordinator for GEAR UP, Student Activities Director for a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant for the Chicago Teacher Center. She moved to Colorado in 2008 and began working as Senior Consultant at the Colorado Department of Education, Office of Language Culture and Equity. As a Senior Consultant, she worked to support culturally and linguistically diverse students to reach academic success through traditional and nontraditional pathways. Presently she works as a Teacher Effectiveness Coach in the Denver Public schools district.


She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Latin American History and Spanish Literature from Northeastern Illinois University, a Bachelor’s degree of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Chicago, a Master’s degree in Equity and Education for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a she completed her principal licensure through the Educational Leadership & Policy Study Program from the University of Denver.
